New £60m Global Health Research Fund Launched (UK)

Universities are invited to apply for funding for research programmes that will benefit people's health in low and middle income countries.

The UK Government's new £60m fund is particularly keen to see proposals in areas currently under-researched.

These include:

• Non-communicable diseases

• Mental health

• Tobacco control

• Road safety

• Surgery, and health

• Applied social or economic research.

The funding is available for successful universities looking to expand their existing global health work, or for new entrants to the field.

Applications are invited for 2 schemes:

• NIHR global health research units:

Universities and research institutes with an existing track-record of internationally recognised research who wish to consolidate and expand this work.

• NIHR global health research groups:

existing specialist academic groups who wish to expand into the field of global health, especially in areas where there is a shortage of research.

The deadline for applications is 26th January 2017.
