A Big Dig event, part of a national scheme to promote community gardening projects, was held at the St. Mark's Community Hub in Londonderry, Smethwick, attracting 54 volunteers including 44 volunteering for the first time.

The hub held one of 260 Big Dig events across the UK on 16 March.

The group has now received the Certificate of Achievement Award at a ceremony held at the Botanical Gardens, Birmingham. St. Mark's Community Hub also recently received a grant of £900 from the Birmingham & Black Country Community Foundation towards the "Growing Out of Poverty" project.
