JOIN SANDWELL'S HOLOCAUST COMMEMORATION EVENT

Sandwell will remember the millions of victims of genocide at a special Holocaust commemoration event in West Bromwich.

The event, to mark Holocaust Memorial Day 2017, will be held on Sunday 29 January at 10.30am (arrive from 10.15am) at Highfields Memorial Gardens, off High Street, West Bromwich, B70 8RJ.

Mayor of Sandwell Councillor Julie Webb and Deputy Mayor Councillor Susan Downing will both be attending. Everyone is welcome.

Councillor Richard Marshall, Sandwell Council's cabinet member for leisure, said: "This will be a solemn observation to respect the memory of millions of victims of genocide who have died throughout the years. "It is so important we do not forget the horrors of the Holocaust and more recent acts of genocide. "We must make sure current and future generations remember the people lost in these crimes as well as thinking about those who live with the memories for the rest of their lives." The theme of Holocaust Memorial Day 2017 asks people to think about what happens after genocide and everyone's own responsibilities in the wake of such a crime. Sandwell College’s Central Sixth campus, together with the council, is also holding a Holocaust Memorial Day event on Friday 27 January at 11am with A level history students doing readings.
