SAFER 6 WEEK THREE RESULTS - TIPTON

The results are in for the Safer 6 campaign's third week, which had a special focus on Tipton.

Firefighters carried out 111 home safety checks across the town during the week and joined council neighbourhood services officers on a walkabout in Leasowe Road and on the Park estate. Two residents were warned about fires in gardens. Neighbourhood officers and councillors also held walkabouts in Powell Place and Bramah Way.

Police, fire and council neighbourhood services officers carried out speed operations in Bloomfield Road in Tipton Green and Toll End Road in Great Bridge. They checked more than 400 vehicles and stopped 25 in total – 12 for speeding, 11 for seatbelts not being worn, one for a driver using a mobile phone and one for having no registration plate.

Police and partners spoke to more than 300 people at cannabis information roadshows held across Tipton and handed out hundreds of advice leaflets to homes across the town.

Police executed a drugs warrant at Jonah Drive, where police seized 49 plants worth an estimated street value of £49,000. One person has been interviewed and is currently on police bail.

Volunteers from Sandwell Crime Prevention Panel and Neighbourhood Watch gave advice at St Paul’s Community Centre, Brook Street Community Centre and Boscobel estate office, handing out more than 70 home safety packs and purse bells.

Police gave talks in schools with officers talking to students about safety and anti-social behaviour.

Council wardens issued three dog mess fines – one in Jubilee Park, one in Mayfair Gardens and another in Victoria Park. They also gave out dog mess bags to dog walkers.

Wardens also got five untaxed vehicles lifted and four abandoned vehicles removed, and put warning notices on another 25 vehicles. They confiscated tobacco from an underage smoker and reported three further vehicles being driven while untaxed.

Council neighbourhood services officers painted fences on Tibbington estate and litter-picked with Litterwatch in Princes End. They also litter-picked in Jays Avenue and Lindley Avenue in Tipton Green.

Council private sector housing property intervention officers inspected 26 empty private homes in Tipton, to check they were secure as they look to get them back into use.

Supervised offenders doing Community Payback carried out clean-ups at Aston Street, Fisher Street and Henley Close.

The Safer 6 campaign ran from 28 September to 8 November, with each of Sandwell's six towns having a special focus week.

Safer 6 is all about organisations targeting their efforts and providing extra reassurance during the darker nights, fireworks and bonfire season – a time when crime and anti-social behaviour can often rise.

Results for the final three weeks of the campaign will follow soon.
