A list of 15 topics will be whittled down to five in a national ballot called Make Your Mark.

Ballot papers are being sent to youth and school councils across the borough with a prize for the organisation recording the most votes.

Young people can also vote online at htt://mym.mi-vote.com/ or get a ballot paper from Sandwell's UKYP members Jugan Sahota and Dawud Ahmed.

The poll closed on October 4 with the debate to be chaired by Speaker John Bercow MP on November 15.

Last year's poll attracted a record 253,000 young people from across the country.

The UKYP is made up of young people elected to represent their peers, air their views and influence local and national government and other organisations.

Sandwell UKYP representatives will hold thier own debate in Sandwell Council's Chamber on Wednesday 30th October on the selected five topics.

Jugan said "The Make Your Mark" ballot is a great opportunity for young people to get their voices heard.

By taking part we are shaping the future and it's an opportunity for us to show everyone that we have voices and needs as well.

Sandwell Council's cabinet member for children's services Councillor Simon Hacket said: "This is a great opportunity for young people to raise the national profile of the things that are important to them".

The 15 topics are:-

Votes for 16 and 17 year olds in public elections and referendums.

A curriculum to prepare us for life.

Better work experience.

Fund our youth services, don't cut them.

Involve young people in the political system.

Combat youth unemployment

Mental health services and education should be improved.

Apprenticeships.

Increased awareness of democracy

Zero tolerance policy to bullying in schools

Euthanasia

A greener future for Britain

Fair representation in the media.

The national minimum wage should be raised in line with the living wage.
